Do You Want Your Picture Taken With Santa and a Machine Gun?

Like it or not, the holiday season is upon us, as if you didn’t already notice.

If you dig this time of year, then there are probably a number of reasons why for feeling so festive. For me, I’m a sucker for the music.

One of my guilty pleasures is The Killers “Don’t Shoot Me Santa”. I don’t know exactly why. It’s just goofy. I mean why would Santa shoot any of us? Then, I happened to come across this article about an Arizona gun club, and suddenly, the song doesn’t seem so far fetched.

It turns out that the Scottsdale Gun Club is celebrating the season with people having their pictures taken with Santa and their favorite weapons, which includes everything from pistols to AR15s to AK47s.

“I thinks it’s going to be all in fun from those who support the second amendment and those who don’t. Whether you’re a gun advocate or not, you should have a lot of fun with it,” said gun club member Richard Jones to MyFOX Phoenix. And clearly, people are enjoying the photo ops.

Both adults and kids are encouraged to “Get Your Holiday Picture With Santa And His Machine Guns!”. The first photo session was on November 26, but, a second one is scheduled for December 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will cost club members $5 and nonmembers $10. And, yes. People can try the guns out as well.

Whether you’re opposed to or in favor of this, it’s not all that shocking.

Arizona has some of the most lenient gun laws in the country. In fact, Washington Post reporter James Grimaldi told NPR earlier this year that “basically state law permits anyone 21 and older to own a firearm and also, to carry it concealed in the state,” after an investigative report.

So, what do you think? Would you get a picture taken with Santa and a machine gun? Or, does this whole thing just take the holiday spirit right out of you?
