Many fans of Ninja Gaiden 3 are concerned that the protagonist Ryu Hayabusa only has the Dragon Sword as his weapon. Good thing, Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu announced on its latest issue that a free downloadable content will arrive upon its release in the market.

Ninja Gaiden 3: Plot and Gameplay

Ninja Gaiden 3 is all about Ryu Hayabusa who is suffering from some sort of psychological turmoil. The game will explore more of his human side, as he moves towards a hellish realm. It will also deal with the sword of his Archfiend in Ninja Gaiden 2.

The game features a few new mechanics such as “Steel on Bone.” It’s a new cinematic trick that enables players to cut through the body in slow motion. There’s also the Kunai Climb that allows Ryu to climb certain type of walls using his kunai. He can go stealth mode, and sneak up on an enemy and kill them with a single blow. Speaking of enemies, they no longer die quickly but will suffer and scream in pain when injured. They’ll just bleed and weaken instead of being dismembered or decapitated.

Ninja Gaiden 3 also has few changes, including the Reverse Wind Technique that was replaced by slide maneuver. Ryu’s Ultimate Technique was replaced by Grip of Murder, wherein his cursed right arm will glow red after killing a specific number of enemies. This will enable him to charge up for an ultimate attack.

The Heads up Display will be present even if he’s not engaged in a battle. The Muramasa store is no longer present, and he can only find items to upgrade his weapon in chests and specific enemy corpses. The Dragon Statues that saves and heals Ryu will be replaced by a Falcon.

About the DLC Pack

Although the pack’s content was not disclosed, it’s believed that the DLC will upgrade Ryu’s weaponry. A scythe and claw was mentioned as a potential addition to his arsenal. However, the free DLC was only confirmed for Japan.

No further information about the DLCs was given, but the addition of scythe and claws will definitely add some variety to the game. Game publisher Tecmo Koei said that Ninja Gaiden 3 will be released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 20 in the US and 23 in Europe.

The PS3 version will have a PlayStation Move compatibility to give players “a new visceral edge when battling and slicing through their enemy’s flesh and bone.” A Wii U version will be available soon.
