Verizon Wireless’ 4G Long Term Evolution network now covers 203 markets as of today. The carrier recently launched the service in seven new markets and expands to 17 more in the United States. After lighting up the 200th 4G LTE candle in Dothan, Alabama, their customers can now take advantage of the speed and connectivity using Verizon-powered devices.

What Lies Ahead for Verizon?

Verizon Wireless plans to more than double its 4G LTE market by the end of the year. With the additional market and continuous expansion, the carrier will be able to cover over 260 million people in the United States when year 2012 ends.

As pointed out by David Small, Verizon Wireless’ chief technical officer:

“Our plans to double our 4G LTE network coverage from the end of 2011 to the end of 2012 align with the aggressive and rapid development strategy we have taken with our 4G LTE network.

Our commitment to expanding and enhancing our 4G LTE network is enabling more customers across the country to enjoy the benefits of the most popular wireless devices. We will continue investing in our 4G LTE network and working with key partners to ensure our customers have access to the best products and services available.

4G LET Markets

Other than Dothan and Enterprise in Alabama, Verizon Wireless also ignited its 4G LTE candle in Naples, Florida, Greenville, South Carolina, Altus and Durant in Oklahoma, and Longview/Marshall, Texas.

The carrier also expanded its network in the following:

  • Washington, DC
  • Elkhart, Indiana
  • Baltimore, Mayland
  • Columbus, Mississippi
  • Northern, North Jersey
  • Wilmington, North Carolina
  • Duncan, Oklahoma
  • Allentown/Bethlehem, Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Scranton/Wilkes Barre in Pennsylvania
  • Hilton Head, South Carolina
  • Cleveland, Tennessee
  • Dallas/Fort Wort, Texas

The 4G LTE Speed

According to Verizon’s press release, 4G LTE users should experience an average of 5-12 megabits of data rates per second on the downlink and 2-5 Mbps on the uplink. Their devices will automatically switch to 3G when they travel outside of the 4G LTE-covered area. This will enable them to be connected from coast to coast, and to take advantage of the 700Mhz brigade when it comes available or when they travel to areas covered by 4G LTE.

Dubbed as the “nation’s fastest 4G network,” Verizon Wireless aims to offer the most reliable high-speed data network in the country.
