Volcom Summer Tops

Volcom is a very cool surfing company that was first started in the garage of Richard “Wooly” Woolcott’s house in 1991. This company is now worth over 600 million dollars. That’s awesome. This company has never been taken under the wing of a larger brand, the owners achieved this on their own by designing the coolest clothes in their industry. This brand has always been more open mined than their rivals and first labeled themselves as “Youth Against Establishment.” A motto they still live by today. At the time no other surfing company was willing to take a risk and try something new. Naturally because of this, the brand skyrocketed to the top of the food chain becoming one of the top brands backing some of the most talented surfers on the planet (they have since achieved this same feat in both skateboarding and snowboarding industries.)

With this success came the opportunity to spread their wings. Volcom now has its own record label and continues to provide a platform for aspiring artist. Some of the bands on their label are Pepper, Valiant Thor, Guttermouth and Birds of Avalon. Maybe you heard of a few? On top of everything else the company also backs the careers of motocross riders Ryan Villopoto, Josh Hansen and Tyla Rattray. This is all great, but the company is truly based on making stylish clothes for surfers. This is where the heart of the brand remains forever with two team houses located on the beach of the most famous surf break in the world, The Banzai Pipeline. Because of Volcom, local surfers who specialize in surfing this only break are able to make careers for themselves, Bruce Irons being one of them. Growing up surfing throughout my childhood and teenage years, no matter how old I get I will always respect the brand. Plus their clothes are great! Today I’m showing you a few picks from their summer 2012 line. Depending on where you live in the world, you may or not be able to pull off a tank top yet, but if so Volcom is a great a choice for summer. I’ve also thrown in a polo and three quarters top (both are excellent casual choices for summer months.) All four come in a range of different colorways and a slimmer stylish fit. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, baggy is OUT.
