Set to be released on October 2, 2012, Resident Evil 6 will be the second main Resident Evil game series that will arrive in PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, while PC owners can grab their copy on a later date. A playable demo of the game will also be available at PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace on September 5. The Xbox 360 version of Dragon’s Dogma will also feature an early access to the demo on July 3.

Characters and Gameplay

For the first time, Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield will be a playable character, and will have new characters as their partners. Capcom also confirmed that Sherry Birkin and Ingrid Hunnigan will be back on the game. In addition, RE6 will introduce Jake Mueller, Helena Harper and Piers Nivens as new characters.

Set on year 2013, US President Adam Benford decided to reveal the truth about what happened in the 1998 Raccoon City Destruction Incident, hoping that it will curb the current bioterrorist activity resurgence. On his side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor Leon S. Kennedy, who’ll need to face him after transforming beyond recognition.

Meanwhile, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, which is also under bioterrorist attack. It was described that he’s dealing with personal “trauma.”

Kennedy’s story will take place in Washington DC and Tall Oaks University, while Redfield’s gameplay is set in Lanshiang, China. They will have separate stories that will eventually overlap, followed by Ada Wong’s narrative once either of the games is completed.

Traditional Zombies will be Back in RE6

Game producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said in an interview with IGN that traditional zombies will return in Resident Evil 6. However, they will not be infected by T-virus anymore, will be more aggressive, can sustain heavy damage, and can mutate damaged body parts.

Pre-order Bonuses and Special Editions

Capcom also revealed that unique Mercenaries road map will be available as a pre-order bonus. GameStop will include The Catacombs that features “booby traps ready to ensnare you around every corner.” Meanwhile, Amazon will offer the giant aircraft carrier, the High Seas Fortress; and Best Buy will have the Rail Yard Map.

As for the game’s platinum edition, gamers can get a copy of Resident Evil 6 with four phone cases: Redfield, Kennedy, Mueller and a “secret” case. A replica of Kennedy’s leather jacket will be included in the package. Available at Capcom’s Japanese eStore, the package will cost around $1,240 and is limited to 5,000 units only.
