7 Must-Have Domestic Robots – R2D2 & C3PO Eat Your Hearts Out

Last week, United States celebrated the third annual National Robotics Week. The event aims to recognize US as the leader in robotics development, educate the public about its impact in the society, encourage increased funding for robotics research and development, and inspire student to pursue careers in robotics, science and technology, engineering and math fields.

The event showcased high-tech and practical robots that are useful around the house. That’s why PC World picked more than 15 useful bots that can handle a handful of household chores.

Mint Plus

The Mint Plus is a hard-floor cleaner that uses Swiffer or other disposable cleaning cloths to dry-sweep or wet-mop your floor. Available at Bed Bath & Beyond and Amazon for $300, this floor-cleaning robot can sweep for 4 hours per 1000 square feet or mop for 2.5 hours per 350 square feet.

Neato XV-21

Set to be released on May, the Neato XV-21 is a powerful vacuum cleaner that is ideal for pet owners and allergy sufferers. It has a specially designed filter that retains over three times the amount of fine dust particles compared to standard filters. It also uses a laser map to efficiently clean your room using a straight line back-and-forth pattern. The Neato XV-21 is available for pre-order at Amazon at $429.

iRobot Scooba 230 Floor Washing Robot

If you utterly hate germs, then the iRobot Scooba 230 Floor Washing Robot could be your best friend. It can kill 97 percent or germs and bacteria and can clean tight spaces because of its small size. You can take this germ-killing robot home for only $280.

Husqvana Automover

For $2700, you can now get the Husqvana Automover, which can clean complicated and uneven lawns. It can handle a 35 percent incline, runs 90 minutes on a 45-minute charge, and features a PIN-code lock, antitheft alarm, and backlit keypad and display

LawnBott LB3510

The LawnBott LB3510 is designed to mow a 40,000-square feet lawn, handle a 27 degrees inclined plane, and runs for 4 hours on a 2.5 hours charge. You can have all of this for $3999.

Jazz Security Robot

Created by Gostai, the Jazz Security Robot features a wide-angle camera with night vision capabilities. This can detect movement and intruders, patrol places, shoot video of suspicious activities, and alert its owners via email or SMS.

Jazz Connect

Another creation from Gostai is the telepresence robot called Jazz Connect. It basically moves around in a remote location, letting you communicate with other people through its camera, speaker and microphone.


These are just few of the domestic robots that were presented at last week’s National Robotics Week. Regardless, the creations that were introduced on the event can be useful for those who could use some help around the house.
