During the New York auto show last month, it was revealed that the BMW X1 will invade United States this fall. This time, the compact SUV gets a price tag of $31,545.

To be launched as a 2013 model, the X1 has been a tremendous success because of it sales that exceeds 275,000 units. It will be built in BMW’s Leipzig, Germany plant, in addition to their plan of manufacturing the vehicle in a newly opened factory in Tiexi in Shenyang Province.

A Touch of Elegance, Versatility and Sportiness

The BMW X1 showcases the typical proportion of a compact SUV, and its appearance is shaped by the vibrant surfaces and signature BMW X model design. It has a sweeping hood, long wheelbase and set-back passenger compartment, which emphasizes its dynamic talent.

Its inherent agility is reflected by its attractive lights and shade effects, while its versatility and ruggedness are apparent through its black bordering at the lower body edge and muscular wheel arches. What makes the vehicle distinct from BMW’s Sports Activity Vehicles is its unique combination of elevated seats and flexible utility of an SAV with a sports sedan’s driving dynamics.

Included Updates and Refinements

The BMW X1 will feature interior and exterior refinements, as well as BMW EfficientDynamics technologies. All models will sport Brake Energy Regeneration, while the sDrive28i and xDrive28i units will also benefit from the Auto Start/Stop and ECO PRO mode for more fuel consumption reduction.

In addition, both BMW xLine and BMW Sport Line will be available in an SAV for the first time, and will serve as an alternative for the base trim level. The M Sport package, on the other hand, is offered to those who want to emphasize the sporting character of the compact SUV.

The vehicle’s sDrive28i and xDrive28i models will feature 2-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine, which delivers maximum power of 240 horsepower at 5,000 revolutions per minute. It has a maximum torque of 260 lb-ft that’s developed at just 1,250 rpm and remains constant at 4,800 rpm. Because of this combination, the sDrive28i and xDrive28i are powered from 0-60 kph in 6.2 and 6.3 seconds respectively.

In relation with its level of responsiveness, the vehicles also have impressive efficiency. The US Environmental Protection Agency gives the sDrive28i a preliminary estimate of 24 mpg city/33 mpg highway/27 mpg combined. On the other hand, the xDrive28i has an EPA estimate of 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined.

The BMW X1 sDrive28i model will be available for $31,545, while the xDrive28i unit will cost $33,245. All prices include the $895 destination and handling fee.
