Under the Hood: Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster

Aston Martin’s new convertible shares many technical specifications from its hardtop kin. However, some features were changed in order to fit the vehicle’s folding soft top. Among those changes is the redesigned trunk lid with a more pronounced lip for speed stability and lower front air intake.

Under the sheet metal, the V12 Vantage roadster also sports a modified rear damper setup, new front and rear damper tuning, and a new rear-spring design. In addition, the vehicle features Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. These changes, according to the automaker, ensure that the roadster will handle and drive based on Aston Martin’s tradition.

The car’s exterior design makes liberal use of carbon fiber accents on the side strakes, front spiller, rear diffuser, mirror caps, and rear lamp surrounds. It also features a set of newly designed19-inch, forged-alloy wheels. In the cabin, users will see new glass switches in the lower center stack and carbon fiber accents around the fascia and stick shift.

Speaking of the stick shift, users can now row their own gears on the V12 Vantage roadster. This feature comes standard with the car manufacturer’s oversized shifter and rear-mounted gearbox. The stick shift helps to manage the roadster’s weight balance. Additionally, the car features a limited-slip differential, which enables it to go from 0 mph to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds. It also has a terminal velocity of 190 mph, as well as a top speed of 306 kmph.

Aston Martin’s new vehicle also features a sport button, which sharpens the car’s throttle response. That said, V12 Vantage roadster engine offers more torque in the rev range. It also creates a sporty sound when the exhaust flaps are kept open, while a quieter exhaust note and relaxed throttle response can be heard in normal mode.

Pricing and Availability

The new Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster comes in at 4,060 pounds, which makes it 180 pounds heavier than its hardtop sibling. The automaker announced that the car will be priced at $233,340 and will be available in select countries. In relation to this, there were reports that Aston Martin plans to limit the roadster’s production to 101 units only.
