MercurySteam Will Conclude Castlevania Trilogy

Castlevania

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Box

It has already been proven that game developer MercurySteam’s take on the Castlevania franchise is a tremendous success for Konami. In fact, the game publisher shared that Castlevania: Lords of the Shadow is the most successful title in the franchise However, MercurySteam intends to end the series on a high note with Lord of Shadows 2.

The game won’t just conclude the Castlevania trilogy; it will also end its involvement in the franchise. As stated by producer David Cox:

Our intention is to tell our story and then move on to other things. We have no intention of milking the series any further than that.

He also explained in an interview with Game Informer that a good story should have a satisfying ending.

We have a very interesting tale to tell—a story about Dracula. Our intention was to tackle the story from his perspective and give players an angle on his viewpoint. I believe that any story worth telling should have a satisfying ending. This one has exactly that, and once it’s told I hope our audience will enjoy the saga as a unique and interesting take on the Castlevania mythology.

About ‘Castlevania: Lords of the Shadow’

The game’s story involves Gabriel Belmont, who is sent by the Brotherhood of Light to the Lake of Oblivion. Upon arriving there, his deceased wife, Marie, told him that the Spirits, who founded the Brotherhood, said that the powers from the Lords of Shadow will save the world.

There, Belmont also met Zobek, a man from the Brotherhood who told him about the prophecy. The prophecy states a pure-hearted warrior will claim the power of Lords of the Shadow to overcome evil, and it will also help Gabriel to bring his deceased wife back.

As it turns out, Zobek is the Lord of the Necromancers that he needs to confront. In addition, Gabriel learned that the God Mask cannot bring his deceased wife back.

Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate

Earlier this year, Nintendo Power magazine revealed that Lords of Shadow will have a sequel. Entitled as Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 – Mirror of Fate, the game will take place 25 years after the events in the original game took place. It will be released for the Nintendo 3DS and will star Gabriel Belmont as Dracula.

What’s Next for MercurySteam?

Once MercurySteam is done with the Lords of Shadow 2, Cox revealed that they are interested in rebooting another Konami classic: Contra. As for their revered Castlevania franchise, the game producer hopes that Konami will pass the franchise to another team. Perhaps, the game publisher could also reboot the series.

I hope others will take up the challenge and bring their vision to the series too, so that Castlevania will never die for future generations to come.
