Confirmed: Apple Will Hold iPad Mini Event this October

Last Saturday, John Paczkowski of All Things D reported that Apple will hold a separate event this October. The event is said to introduce the company’s new and smaller iPad. It appears that they are lining up for two “blockbuster events”, as the iPad Mini event is expected to kick off after the next-generation iPhone is released this September. Paczkowski wrote:

Only after the next-generation iPhone is out the door and on sale will Apple announced the smaller iPad it’s been working on. That device, which is expected to have a display less than eight inches, will be uncrated at a second special event, which sources said is currently scheduled for October.

The Speculated Two Blockbuster Events

Reports of an iPad Mini confirmed earlier comments from The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple and Daring Fireball’s John Gruber. Both indicated last week that they expect Apple to hold two separate events for the next-generation iPhone and the iPad Mini.

Gruber added that an event in the first or second week of October would be in line with the iPod events that Apple has held for decades. He theorized that the company won’t took the wraps off of its marquee device alongside a second product, which could dilute the attention that it will demand.

I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time. Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage? … The more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product. The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention—and it’s in Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted.

On the other hand, Apple declined to comment on the recent news.

Taking Advantage of Holiday Sales

With the next-generation iPhone and the so-called iPad Mini in the pipeline, it only makes sense that Apple will hold two separate events for their popular devices. In addition, this gives the company the opportunity to heat up the tech news cycle prior to their customers’ holiday shopping spree.

It also appears that the company will take advantage of all the sales that they could get from both next-generation iPhone and rumored iPad Mini. Thus, people should expect that Apple will announce two events in the coming days or weeks ahead, followed by unveiling their two biggest hardware next year.
