According to an unnamed AT&T sales representative, the network carrier has blocked employees from taking a vacation starting September 21 to September 30. What’s interesting is that the blackout dates coincide with Apple’s rumored September 21 release date for the next-generation iPhone.

Although the sales rep did not give further details, it was reported that AT&T employees are undergoing training for an “iconic release.”

Another interesting thing about this report is that the rumored launch date falls on Friday. It is a day that Apple traditionally reserves for product releases, after a Tuesday announcement was made the week before it. Last year, the company announced its iPhone 4S on October 4, a Tuesday, and it was followed by an October 14 release which is a Friday. The only difference this time, though, is that the iPhone maker will be taking pre-orders of its upcoming handset on the same day of its announcement.

Following Verizon’s Suit

Before AT&T set its vacation blackout, Verizon already made the same move. Last week, it was reported that it had it’s vacation days blacked out for late September. The blackout dates run from September 21 to September 30, which go in line with rumored next-generation iPhone release date. As posted on TechCrunch:

A trusted Verizon employee has just confirmed to TechCrunch that the carrier is having an all-staff vacation blackout from the dates of Friday, September 21 to September 30. You know what that means, right?

The next iPhone, whether it’s called the iPhone 5 or simply the new iPhone, will almost certainly be available in stores (with lines wrapping around the back of them) starting Friday, September 21.

The speculations came from the heels of leaked parts of the next-generation iPhone. Recently, a video showing a side-by-side comparison of the upcoming handset and the current iPhone 4S from Smartphone Medic surfaced. There were also reports about the mobile phone’s purported flex cables and front plate.

Apple is expected to take the wraps off its next iPhone on September 12, followed by a rumored September 21 release. The device is said to feature a larger 4-inch screen with in-cell touch technology, a uni-body design, and a 9-pin dock connector.

The release of the next-generation iPhone will be followed by an announcement of the rumored iPad Mini. This series of Apple news indicates that people will be in for some “blockbuster events” prior to their holiday shopping spree.
