During its press conference at Tokyo Game Show last September 18, Sony confirmed that a slimmer and lighter PlayStation 3 will land on stores in the coming weeks.

Dubbed as PS3 Super Slim, the latest game console resembles the original PlayStation 3 with its wide-body appearance and rounded plastic encasing. However, it is 20 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than its predecessor. It also measures 11.4 x 2.36 x 9.05 inches.

The new console is the first to abandon a disc-loading slot, as it now operates using a disc ray. It also features two front-facing USB ports, although it doesn’t include an IR infrared port for remote control communication.

PS3 Super Slim and Uncharted 3 Bundle

Sony’s PS3 Super Slim will come in two separate bundles. The first one will be available on September 25 for $269, and it will include a 250 GB hard drive and a copy of Uncharted 3. Included in the pack is the game’s downloadable content for Dust 514. As posted on Sony Playstation’s official website:

UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception Game of the Year Edition is Nathan Drake’s latest adventure that propels the  fortune hunter on a trek into the heart of the Arabian Desert and includes over $45 of Bonus Content! DUST 514, a free to play game available exclusively on the PlayStation Network, thrusts you into the explosive ground conflict of the EVE universe.

On the other hand, the 500 GB model will be available on October 30 for $299. The console will be packed with a copy of Assassin’s Creed III.

Pricing and Availability

As AMOG reported yesterday, the new Sony PS3 Super Slim will come in Charcoal Black and Classic White. It will be available in Japan on October 4 and November 22 respectively, and it will cost 24,900 yen for the 250 GB model and 29,800 yen for the 500 GB unit.

In North America, the 250 GB model will be available on September 25 with a price tag of $269. Its 500 GB cousin will hit the stores by the end of October for $299.

A 12 GB of flash memory will be available in PAL territories on October 12 for 299 euros. Also available for the same price is the 500 GB PS3 Super Slim, which will land  on shelves on September 28.

The current 160 GB PS3 Slim remains at $250 price tag and is still the cheapest console in the market. It is yet to be known whether it will have a price drop eventually. On the other hand, neither of the two PS3 Super Slim models will support backward compatibility.
