After a series of benchmark tests, it was declared that Apple’s iPhone 5 is the world’s fastest smartphone.

As reported by PC Mag, the performance of Apple’s latest smartphone was compare against the previous models (iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S) and top Android phones (Samsung Galaxy S III and Google Motorola Droid RAZR M).

iPhone 5 vs. Previous iPhone Models

It turns out that the iPhone 5 was able to beat its predecessors in terms of browser and graphics performance, as well as in general purposes. In the browser test, the iPhone 5 scored almost twice as fast as iPhone 4S and over three times as fast as iPhone 4, even with all the previous models upgraded to iOS 6.

As for its graphics performance, Apple’s latest smartphone scored 2.2 times as high as iPhone 4S and over 8 times as fast as iPhone 4. On the other hand, the general purpose benchmark showed that the iPhone 5 is over 2.5 times as fast as iPhone 4S and more than 4.2 times as fast as iPhone 4.

iPhone 5 vs. Top Android Phones

Other than the comparison against previous iPhone models, Apple’s iPhone 5 also had a benchmark test against top Android smartphones. This includes Samsung Galaxy S III and Google Motorola Droid RAZR M. Both handsets tout 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processors.

PC Mag also noted that the previous iPhone 4S, which features iOS 6 and A5 dual core processor locked in 800 MHz, is at par with leading Android 4.0 mobile devices. The online publication added that Apple’s latest iPhone model “takes things to the next level.”

In fact, iPhone 5 Browsermark scores 80 percent higher than the Android phones, and it also shows faster Sunspider times. As for its graphics performance, Apple’s new flagship smartphone beats the Galaxy S III and Droid RAZR M.

Its general purpose benchmark score, on the other hand, won by a narrower margin. However, the website pointed out that “the ‘memory’ and ‘stream’ scores, both of which test loading data in and out of RAM, come out much better on the Apple device.”

Due to this, PC Mag concluded that “the iPhone 5 lives up to the promise of being twice as fast as the iPhone 4S. It’s also, for now, the fastest handheld computer sold in the US.”

There were claims that Apple’s A6 got its speed advantage with the help of TechInsights’ “very unique processor design”. It appears that the processor uses three graphics cores and an all-new ARM dual core GPU, which is designed by Apple.
