Black Ops 2 on PS3 Now Includes Texture Install for HDD

It was reported last Sunday that Treyarch is giving PlayStation 3 gamers the option to install Black Ops 2 texture to their hard drive. Game Director David “Vahn” Vonderhaar revealed the new feature on the official Call of Duty forums.

This is one the fans have been demanding for a bit. Black Ops 2 has an option to ‘Install Textures to HDD’.

When we explained to PS3 folks that installing to the HDD wouldn’t necessarily give us any significant performance gains, they explained back that the issue is they play so much it puts constant stress on the Blu-ray drive and wears them out.

Roger that.

It’s a non-trivial amount of HDD space to install all the textures. I don’t want to get into exactly numbers because anything can, and does change during development.

You don’t have to install to enjoy the game. We still pre-cache like we did on Black Ops.

Before PC and Xbox 360 owners wail that they’re getting the short end of the stick, Vahn pointed out that this feature won’t give any “significant performance gains” to the PS3. It was added to keep the console’s Blu-ray lens to wear out. The game director also pointed out that the Install Texture is optional. However, how huge this feature could occupy on the console’s space remains to be seen.

Now Available: New Black Ops 2 Zombies Teaser

In addition, Treyarch also rolled out a new teaser for its highly anticipated Black Ops 2: Zombie Mode.

Nothing much is shown in the video, although it features a static television set. The devious trailer also shows background images that display something akin to the game’s zombie level. No further details about the game were uncovered, as the teaser is meant to build anticipation for each official zombie mode unveiling.

Prior to this, another promotional video was released by Treyarch that shows a camera centered on a bus. Near the end of the clip, viewers were given a quick glimpse of a horde of zombies, running through flames dressed in hospital robes and chasing after a bus. Showcasing what appears to be one of the zombie mode stages, it also reveals that the world premiere of Black Ops 2: Zombie Mode will be on September 26.

As previously reported, Black Ops 2 Zombies will have its official launching on Wednesday, September 26. This means that Call of Duty fans must prepare themselves, as more information will become available on Wednesday.
