Iam Callum Jaguar Debuts 2014 F-Type at the Paris Motor Show

Although the automaker remained mum when it comes to the car’s price, it’s clear that it intends to offer a compelling alternative for potential Boxster buyer. The vehicle was designed by Ian Callum, creating a British roadster that channels elements of the E-type. However, the designer didn’t succumb to the temptation of creating an actual retro design.

Powertrain Specifics

The 2014 Jaguar F-type comes in three supercharged engine trim levels. F-type and F-type S are powered by Supercharged 3.0 L V6, producing 335 hp and 375 hp respectively. The F-type V8S gets its power from Supercharged 5.0 L V8 that produces 488 hp.

Dual center-mounted exhaust pipes can be found on the V6 models, while the V8

features quad pipes that are arranged on two per side.

Each type will also get ZF eight-speed automatic transmission with QuickShift. This enables the car to cut fuel when changing gears for faster shifts. The S models will come with launch control, while V6S models get a mechanical limited slip differential. On the other hand, the V8S will feature an electronic differential, which maximizes traction in performance situations and in inclement weather.

Interior and Exterior Design

It was also reported that the 2014 Jaguar F-type will be convertible at launch. In fact, all models will get an electrically operated Z-fold cloth roof without the tonneau cover. The car manufacturer added that it will take 12 seconds to open or close the cover.

The vehicle is also made of lightweight, two-seat aluminum monocoque. It also uses structural aluminum castings when it comes to critical load-bearing and safety-related areas. As a result, the car features a frame that is said to be stiffer than the XKR-S.

A two-seat cockpit design angles can be found at the center stack towards the driver. It comes with a grab bar that separates the two halves visually. Jaguar also integrated pop-up vents in the center of the dash so that the interior design comes clean without compromising the ventilation.

With a base curb weighing in at 3,500 lbs, the 2014 Jaguar F-Type features an aluminum-intensive architecture. Its trunk lid is made of composite materials, allowing it to house various antennas without the risk of interference. In addition, the trunk measures about seven cubic feet.

The car’s grille also resembles that of the current XJ and XK models in order to define the “face of Jaguar.”
