Volkswagen finally announced that its 2013 Jetta Hybrid gets a price tag. The car will cost $27,785 including a $795 destination fee. There’s also the base Jetta Hybrid that comes in at $25,790. However, it is only available by special order.

Under the Hood: 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid

Under the hood, the upcoming VW sedan will feature a turbocharged, direct-injected, 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine. What makes this model different is that it uses the naturally aspirated and twin-charged 1.4-liter engine that is currently offered in Europe. Because of this, the car can produce 150 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, coupled with 27 hp electric motor.

Its combined power output of 170 hp will be sent through a seven-speed DSG transmission. This makes the vehicle the first hybrid to use dual-clutch automatic. On the other hand, the car’s electric power is from 1.1 kWh battery pack, which is placed behind the rear seat and weighs in at less than 80 lbs.

Just like in any other VW hybrids, the 2013 Jetta Hybrid uses a clutch to decouple that gas engine from the drivetrain. This enables the engine to shut off and the car to “coast” on electricity at a top speed of 84 mph. Aside from that, the driver can also choose to go on electric-only E-mode by simply pushing a button next to the shift lever.

The automaker also boasted that the 2013 Jetta Hybrid will be its most fuel-efficient car in the U.S. lineup. It can produce an estimated combined fuel economy of 45 mpg. The car can also travel at up to 44 mph on electric power alone, although it only ranges at 1.2 miles.

As for its base model, the vehicle is equipped with daytime running lights, one-touch power windows, automatic climate control, Bluetooth, auxiliary audio input, multifunction steering wheel, and many more. The SE model, on the other hand, includes LED taillights, power seats, premium touch-screen radio, as well as keyless entry and push-button start.

Volkswagen will also come up with an SEL model, which will have a sticker price of $30,120. It got bigger wheels, sunroof, better radio, heated front seats, heated washer nozzles, and a six-way power driver’s seat. There’s also the SEL Premium that adds navigation, bixenon headlights with active front lighting, fog lights, 17-inch wheels, subwoofer, and rearview camera.

It is expected that the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid will go on sale during the last quarter of this year.
