Prior to the rumored release of Apple’s iPad Mini, it was already estimated that the company could sell a total of 21.6 million full-sized tablets this holiday season, according to Amit Daryanani of RBC Capital Markets’ note to investors last Monday.

Daryanani also added that the iPad maker could gain additional sales of 8 million units in case the 7-inch iPad will hit the stores during the last quarter of the year. It would tantamount to $2 million net benefit for the Apple and would result to total sales of 29.6 million units this holiday.

Coming Soon: Apple’s iPad Mini

The sales forecast came on the heels of The Wall Street Journal’s report last week, saying that Apple has placed orders for 10 million iPad Mini units for the holiday quarter. In relation to this, there were reports that production of the smaller iPad is underway at the company’s overseas suppliers.

It was rumored that the device will feature a display with lower screen resolution than the current iPad model with Retina Display. As for the price, there were claims that it will take on the competing smaller tablets like Kindle Fire, Google Nexus 7, and Barnes & Noble Nook.

Last week, it was also reported that a Ukrainian website posted a collection on images that claimed to be from a purported iPad Mini. This includes the front and back panel, a space for nano-SIM tray, and an LCD display.

The images also suggest that the 7-inch tablet will retain its headphone jack at the top of the device. On the other hand, the bottom of the device features a small space for the Lightning connector. There were also indications that the purported iPad Mini will have cellular data network connectivity, and it will come in black or white.

Expected iPad Mini Event

Additionally, there were reports that Apple is set to roll out invitations to the member of the press tomorrow. The speculation surfaced after a “major Apple investor” talked with Philip Elmer-DeWitt of Apple 2.0 and cited “multiple sources.”

Because the company usually gives a week’s notice to the press people before the actual event, there were rumors that the iPad Mini will be unveiled on October 17. In relation to this, the 7-inch tablet will land on stores before the month ends—just in time for the holiday shopping season.
