According to recent reports, a major third-party accessory maker halted its production of cases for the so-called iPad Mini because the company learned that the rumored tablet will undergo changes in design. In other words, the OEM mobile accessory maker’s cases are based on a wrong design.

The reports were posted by the Japanese industry website Macotakara yesterday. However, Apple is yet to announce its upcoming device officially. This means that any cases available at the moment are based on rumors and product leaks.

Product Leaks and Apparent Changes on iPad Mini

Citing an anonymous source, Macotakara reported that the “round shape” of the iPad Mini may have changed. However, the source also indicated that it is still unclear how apparent the 7-inch tablet’s new design is.

This is not the first time that accessory makers have bet and lost on Apple products. Last year, some third-party makers of Apple products accessories banked on completely redesigned look of the iPhone 4S. As it turns out, the fifth-generation smartphone is nearly identical to its predecessor.

Nevertheless, it is likely that the major accessory maker based its design on the images and videos that have circulated on the Web for weeks. In fact, the rumored design has become so popular that some companies in China are now selling inexpensive mockups of the iPad Mini.

In addition, the recent mockups were detailed enough that other websites are starting to compete it with existing smaller tablets such as Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD. There were also images showing a device with metal back and curved sides. It resembles the full-sized iPad, although it is smaller and features a 7.85-inch display.

Existing mockups also showed a tablet with a thinner bezel on the side, making it compatible for a one-hand operation. Previous designs also show a device that is 13.5 centimeters wide, 20 centimeters tall, and 7.68 millimeters thick. Because iPad Mini mockups are now readily available in some stores, no wonder that dummy devices with 3G or Wi-Fi capabilities are also available.

It is expected that Apple will silence all the rumors, as it was previously reported that it is likely to introduce the 7-inch tablet next week, after speculations that the company will send invitations to the members of the press today surfaced. In relation to this, the iPad maker is said to roll out its iPad Mini before the end of the month to take advantage of the holiday shopping season.
