Just 6 months after the third-generation iPad was introduced to the public, Apple announced a fourth-generation tablet. As what the company’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller said, the iPad maker is not taking its foot off the gas. The device reportedly features a faster A6X processor, FaceTime HD camera, and Lightning Connection port.

Apple’s iPad 4 Features

Apple’s latest iPad has expanded LTE support for more carriers around the world. In addition, its Wi-Fi is twice as fast as its predecessor. It costs the same as the new iPad 16 GB Wi-Fi-only model that is priced at $499. On the other hand, its cellular-capable counterpart costs $629.

Dubbed the “iPad 4,” the device sports the same 9.7-inch Retina Display, new A6X processor that is designed by Apple, and 10-hour battery life. Moreover, the tablet’s processor is designed by Apple, and it delivers up to twice the CPU and GPU performance of the A5X chip.

The device also supports the company’s new Lightning connector. This feature ditched Apple’s legacy 30-pin dock connector that can be found in previous models of the iPad. Aside from that, Lightning connector accessories are available to support cameras, SD cards, as well as VGA or HDMI digital video.

Because it features the same design as its predecessor, existing Smart Covers and iPad Smart Case are compatible with the iPad 4.

Pricing and Availability

Apple’s fourth-generation iPad will become available on November 2. Coming in either black or white, the tablet will have 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB capabilities that will cost $499, $599, and $699 respectively.

In addition, its Wi-Fi + Cellular counterpart will land on AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. It will also feature the same storage capabilities, although it will be priced at $629, $729, and $829.

The iPad will be sold through Apple Online Store, retail stores, and select authorized resellers in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K. and the U.S.

Those who want to secure their iPad 4 can pre-order the tablet on Friday, October 26. Aside from the fourth-generation tablet, Apple also announced its iPad Mini. It appears that the Cupertino-based company will be taking advantage of the holiday shopping season by giving both ends of the tablet market what they need.
