Finally! Entertainment Software Rating Board has rated Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Vice City for re-release on PlayStation 3. Both gamers were originally released for PS2, and it is likely to become available to PS3 through the PlayStation Network as PS2 Classics.

Prior to this, Grand Theft Auto III is the first PS2 game in the franchise that was re-released for PS3 as a PS2 Classics last July 31.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on Android and iOS

Aside from being re-released for PS3, Rockstar Games announced that the GTA: Vice City will be available to select iOS and Android mobile devices “later this fall.” The news came at the heels of the game’s 10th anniversary. It is also said that the upcoming GTA: Vice City for iOS and Android will boast native high-resolution graphics and a couple of enhancements.

However, the game developer didn’t give any release date other than the “later this fall” time frame. That said, gamers could experience the thrill of this action-based, open-world video game on their smartphones or tablets before the year ends. As stated on Rockstar Games official blog:

In conjunction with the anniversary, we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be releasing an Anniversary Edition of the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for select iOS and Android devices later this fall. This upcoming version will bring the full experience to mobile devices, featuring native high-resolution graphics and several enhancements unique to the iOS and Android platforms.

Aside from the mobile experience, Rockstar Games also announced that they will release a series of commemorative assets. This would include never-before-seen artwork, as well as brand new anniversary trailer that will highlight some of the game’s most iconic scenes and music. There will also be a run of collectible promotional items, which will be available through Rockstar Warehouse. Founder Sam Houser also added:

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City gave players the freedom of massive open-world in one of the most iconic and vibrant settings ever realized in a game. It was a defining moment in the series and we’re delighted to be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with a stunning, updated version for phones and tablets.

Originally released for PlayStation 2 on October 2002, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City received numerous awards and praises from the press. It has changed the gaming landscape with the combination of open-world freedom, humor, and city action. It is the epitome of a great marriage between video games and mainstream pop culture.
