A super yacht named Venus was officially launched in Aalsmeer, The Netherlands last Sunday. The yacht was commissioned by the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and was unveiled with the Jobs family by the Dutch custom ship builder Feadship.

Meet Venus, the Apple-inspired Super Yacht

When it comes to the vessel’s exterior, Venus shows a sleek and minimalistic design that shares an aesthetic that is similar with Apple products. It was reported that they yacht is around 80 meters long, and its hull is made completely of aluminum.

Additionally, the wheelhouse, saloon, and main deck entrances are adorned with huge plate-glass windows that give the ship a clean and open appearance. Inside, the wheelhouse uses seven 27-inch iMac to run  navigation, systems control, and other seafaring software that will assist in the operation of Venus.

It was reported that the vessel’s interior was designed by Philippe Starck. The backside of the desktops were even visible in the wheelhouse. However, not much is known about the yacht’s cabin arrangement or the crew needed to sail. But it was reported that the vessel will be freighted from Aalsmeer to her home port in the United States.

There were claims that Jobs started designing the Venus after returning from an Italy to Turkey cruise, which he called his “best vacation” ever. He designed the super yacht repeatedly, and he almost cancelled the project due to illness in 2009. As stated by the late Apple co-founder to his biographer Walter Isaacson:

I didn’t think I would be alive when it got done. But that made me so sad, and I decided that working on the design was fun to do, and maybe I have a shot at being alive when it’s done.

On the other hand, an iPod Shuffle with a “Venus” engraving was given to each worker involved with the ship’s construction as a gesture of gratitude. It also comes with a note from the Jobs family, thanking them for their “hard work and craftsmanship.”

In relation to this, Dutch website One More Thing posted images of Venus, showing the yacht’s interior and exterior design. It also posted a YouTube video that shows how the vessel looks like from the outside.

The Venus’ so-called first public appearance in the Netherlands is another proof of Steve Jobs’ legacy. As to what will happen next to the super yacht once it arrived in the U.S. is yet to be known.
