Following reports that Apple sold out its launch inventory of iPad Mini, online retailer Amazon made a direct assault on the 7-inch tablet. The retailer posted a large an on their website, saying that the Kindle Fire HD offers “much more for much less.”

Amazon Kindle Fore HD vs. Apple iPad Mini

While Apple’s iPad Mini was available for pre-order last weekend, Amazon ran an advertisement on the front of its website that compares the Kindle Fire HD against the iPad Mini. The retailer panned Apple’s 7-inch tablet as having “standard definition, low-resolution display.”

Furthermore, Amazon dismissed the fact that the iPad Mini has a mono speaker, while the Kindle Fire HD has dual stereo speakers. The Kindle Fire HD is also more affordable at $199 compared to the 7-inch iOS tablet with an entry price of $329.

Aside from the comparison, a quote from Gizmodo calling Apple  “ballsy” is also prominent on the front page of the online retail store. The online publication is calling the Cupertino-based company names for charging more for the iPad Mini despite having a display with lower resolution. As the quote stated:

“…your [Apple’s] 7.9-inch tablet has far fewer pixels than the competing 7-inch tablets! You’re cramming a worse screen in there, charging more, and accusing others of compromise? Ballsy.”

It should be recalled that Gizmodo and Apple are not in good terms after the website purchased and disassembled an iPhone 4 prior to its launch. The online publication also pushed the said handset’s “antenna-gate” controversy.

Sales Report from Amazon

In addition, Amazon reported that its Kindle Fire HD had its biggest day of sales last Wednesday, following the announcement of iPad Mini. Sales for the online retailer’s tablet also went up three times compared to last week’s report. However, it didn’t release any sales data, so it’s unknown how many Kindle Fire HDs were sold.

On the other hand, it’s still unknown how many iPad Mini Apple can build before its launch this Friday. Nevertheless, whatever inventory the company have in its online store were already sold out. The white and silver were sold out immediately after it became available, while 16 GB black and slate unit took 35 hours to sell out.

In relation to this, it was already advertised on Apple’s website that 16 GB and 64 GB models of the iPad Mini will be shipped in two weeks.
