The upcoming high-definition collection of Kingdom Hearts is coming to Japan. According to the game’s official website, it will be available in the country on March 14, 2013. Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will be exclusive for PlayStation 3.

Inside Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix

Previously announced last September at the Tokyo Game Show, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will feature HD remasters of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days to celebrate the series’ tenth anniversary.

The game has a similar gameplay with Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Re: Chain or Memories. In the original version of Final Mix, however, it features four commands. These are Attack, Magic, Items, and a context-sensitive slot that varies depending on the location and action of the target.

During the Tokyo Game Show, the 1.5 HD Remix revealed that it will only feature three commence menu: Attack, Magic and Items. The fourth command will be replaced with Reaction Commands, which appears when needed or when it is triggered by pressing the Triangle Button. Meanwhile, the camera will work the same as Kingdom Hearts II.

Development of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix

In August 2011, Square Enix’s game director and character designer Tetsuya Nomura expressed his desire to release a high-definition version of the game. However, he is yet to confirm those plans until Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix in September of this year during the Tokyo Game Show.

The upcoming game is an HD remaster compilation of the Kingdom Hearts series, exclusive for PlayStation 3. It includes Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories in HD definition and trophy support.

Moreover, it was revealed that character models from Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance such as Sora, Riku and Ansem were used in 1.5 HD Remix as a character base. The cut scenes from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix will use the original Japanese voice acting, and every cut scene from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will be remade for Theater Mode.

The latter was originally planned to be an HD remade game, but it would delay he development of the new title. Thus, it ended up being part of the compilation’s Theater Mode.

Kingdom Hearts in North America

As to whether the Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix will be released in North America, Square Enix did not make any announcement regarding that. A director’s cut-like Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix was never released in the region, so there is skepticism on whether the game will be available stateside or not.
