Aside from Apple’s purported iPhone 5S, the next-generation Galaxy S has been getting all the hype the past few weeks. But although the device’s existence is more or less an open secret as of the moment, Samsung has not officially confirmed anything related to the so-called Galaxy S IV.

Screen Size and Resolution

Despite numerous speculations regarding the Samsung Galaxy S IV, publications were able to come up with a consensus that the device will feature a 5-inch screen with 1080-pixel resolution.

In addition, there were rumors about the screen’s nature. Some say that it may be unbreakable, while others claim that it will be bendable.

Exynos 5 Octa SoC

Since the Consumer Electronics Show 2013 event in Las Vegas, rumors about the purported handset’s built-in processor have started to emerge. There were claims that the Korean tech giant will utilize the Exynos 5 Octa SoC, which was introduced at the show, in the Galaxy S IV.

This would provide two sets of four-processor cores for the handset. The first set would be the low-power ARM Cortex A7s for improved battery life, while the other four would be the powerful but power-sapping Cortex A15s for high-performance work.

On the other hand, Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs took a public swing on the Octa SoC, saying that it is not a “true” eight core and that it is only used for PR stunt. Nevertheless, the alternating quad-core system could still provide benefits for the Samsung Galaxy S IV. Thus, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the processors on the device.

Galaxy S IV’s Hardware and Software

Although there haven’t been much leaks with regards to the Samsung Galaxy S IV’s hardware, there were plenty of speculation about it. Most of it talks about 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, and an SD card slot. It is also said that the handset will have a 13-megapixel camera, which will probably sport all of Samsung’s existing camera goodies.

Release Date and Availability

Other issue that’s been on close watch is the device’s release date. Publications agree that Samsung will release the Galaxy S IV at the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. There were also claims that the handset may be released on the latter part of the year.

However, these speculations are eroding lately; pointing out that Samsung has already pulled enough weight to hold its own party. Thus, dates in March, April, and May have all been leveraged by various sources.
