Last Thursday, Facebook announced the Facebook Card, a tangible and reusable gift card that lets users keep their monetary balances from various retailers on the same card. As stated on the company’s official blog:

After you’ve received a card, the next time you get a Facebook Card gift, it will instantly be added to your existing card. Your card can hold multiple gift balances, and each balance is dedicated to the retailer associated with the gift.

That said, Facebook Card holders can now treat their friends with Jamba Juice or have a shopping spree at Target.

How Facebook Gift Card Works

For it to work, a user needs to select a gift for a friend via the Gift Card & Digital category. Select a value and then make a purchase. The company said:

Your friend will be notified instantly about your gift, and will receive a Facebook Card in the mail a few days later. As soon as it arrives, your friend can use the card at the retailer you’ve chosen for the amount you’ve gifted.

Gift balances can be viewed through the Facebook account settings on both mobile and desktop versions. It will also notify a user when the balances change with real-time notifications sent to your phone. What’s cool about this feature is that the social networking giant won’t charge cardholders any fees for the use of Facebook Card.

As of the moment, the only stores that accept Facebook Card are Jamba Juice, Olive Garden, Sephora, and Target. In addition, Facebook also announced that the Gift Card will roll out in a staggered release through US.

Facebook Card vs. Facebook Credits Gift Card

Facebook Card can be used at any store or restaurant where a user has an active gift balance. A gift balance for a particular store can only be used at that store, although it can hold balance from multiple stores.

However, a Facebook Card should not be confused with Facebook Credits Gift Card. According to the social network, Facebook Card is a reusable plastic card that a user receives via mail when a friend sends him a gift. It will contain a gift balance that can be used at a real-world store or restaurant. It cannot be used for payments for apps and games on Facebook.

On the other hand, Facebook Credits Gift Card is a pre-paid card that members can use to buy virtual goods in any games or apps that accept payments. It can be purchased at various retailers throughout the US, Europe, and Asia.
