Last Tuesday, the HBO Go app for iPhone and iPad scored its much-awaited update. HBO’s co-president Eric Kessler stated during the D: Dive Into Media conference that the application, together with Cinemax’s Max Go app, can now wirelessly stream video to the Apple TV.

More About HBO GO Version 2.0

HBO Go is a free offering included in the paid subscription with HBO. However, it is only limited to select cable markets. In case a user’s cable company supports it, the service enables him to stream HBO’s catalog of television shows like its current lineup, as well as its movie selection.

Meanwhile, its iOS app is ideal from watching HBO content, although it has blocked the use of AirPlay or AirPlay mirroring until now. This means that users cannot send premium content to their Apple TV-enabled television.

But everything will change with the arrival of HBO Go version 2.0. With the latest app version, OS X Mountain Lion users can now use AirPlay mirroring on recent Macs to get HBO Go content on their televisions. In addition, HBO offers an HBO Go app on TV-connected Roku.

Due to this, questions were raised as to whether an official Apple TV channel for HBO Go is in the works. Kessler’s response is that “We will get on Apple TV, as we’ve said all along.” Nevertheless, everything remains to be seen.
