After a number of rumors roaming around the blogosphere, it’s finally out!

Revealed by game producer, designer, and programmer Mark Cerny, PlayStation 4’s new controller will be called DualShock 4. It boasts a front touchpad, share button, normal face buttons, speaker, headset jack, redesigned L2 and R2 buttons, stereo camera, and a light bar.

Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Computer Entertainment’s president of Worldwide Studios, said that the DualShock 4 is the new wireless controller that will help bring in a new gameplay experience to PlayStation 4.

The console adopts the familiar form factor of DualShock 3, but with some key enhancements:

  • Motion control is enabled by a new highly sensitive six-axis sensor.
  • Dual analog sticks fine-tuned for better precision plus improved surface materials and shape for more delicate manipulation.
  • L2/R2 buttons on the top of the controller employ a curved design for easier, smoother interaction.
  • A new “Options” button combines the functions of the DualShock 3’s “Select” and “Start” buttons for operating in-game menus.

As Yoshida stated, DualShock 4’s features will “provide game developers the freedom to create brand-new experiences that previously were limited to their imaginations.”
