Last Monday, Samsung sent out an invitation for a media event set for March 14 in New York. It is expected that the company will unveil their latest flagship smartphone—the Galaxy S4—in response to Apple’s iPhone 5.

After the invitations were sent out, CNet was able to confirm that the South Korean tech giant is planning to show off their next Galaxy S unit. The invitation’s tagline, “Ready 4 the Show,” also strongly hints at the device.

Galaxy S4’s Rumored Features

The Samsung Galaxy S4 is rumored to feature an eight-core Exynox processor, eight-core graphics processor, 4.99-inch SuperAMOLED display, 2 GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front camera, and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Aside from that mobile handset, the company also announced their latest tablet—the Galaxy Note 8.0. The stylus-enabled device is a bit larger than Apple’s iPad Mini by an eighth of an inch, but it boasts higher-resolution screen with 1280 x 800 pixels.

Apple vs. Samsung

Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup represents the company’s flagship smartphone, which competes against Apple’s iPhone devices. Because the Galaxy S4 is highly anticipated, the upcoming Samsung Unpacked event is expected to overshadow most of the new products that will be announced at this week’s Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona, Spain.

Last year, the Samsung Galaxy S3 was able to outdo the iPhone 4S in quarterly sales before the launch of iPhone 5 late last year. However, the popularity of South Korean company’s flagship phone waned, making the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 the world’s two most popular smartphones.
