It was rumored that Amazon is set to invade the low end of the tablet market with a $99 version of their Kindle Fire. However, a spokesperson of the online retailer said that it’s not going to happen.
A $99 Amazon Kindle Fire, Anyone?
Rumors emerged last Wednesday, saying that Amazon will release another 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet later this year. It is also likely to have a 1280 x 800 display, but a price that can beat much of the low-end tablet market. The tablet is also said to feature a processor from Texas Instruments.
However, an Amazon spokesperson told Business Insider that the stories are inaccurate. As pointed out by the online retailer’s representative:
It’s not happening. We are already at the lowest price points possible for that hardware.
Nevertheless, the lowest price possible for “that hardware” makes the company’s option open in releasing a $99 tablet.
