Taking place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, players will meet many important characters for the first time and forge key relationships.”There have been plenty of rumors surrounding the highly anticipated sequel to the 2011 video game Batman: Arkham City since March. Earlier this month, fans learned that the game will be a prequel entitled Batman: Arkham Origins. According to IGN, here’s the plot:

Besides the synopsis, here are ten other things that are known, or still being speculated, about the upcoming release.

  • Rocksteady Studios was replaced by a new studio, WB Montreal, as the developer.
  • Origins will still have similar game play to its predecessors and developers once again used Unreal Engine 3 for the game.
  • The game will take place on Christmas eve.
  • Because there will be massive snowstorms, the game will feature a storm indicator which warns the Caped Crusader of incoming wind blasts.
  • Kevin Conroy, the famous voice behind Batman in the previous games and animated series, will not be returning. The developers have stated that they want “to use a new younger actor because the game features Batman in his early years.”
  • It’s strongly rumored that Origins will have multiplayer this time. A tipster reported to Kotaku that “during at least one section of multiplayer, you play as a member of Joker or Bane’s gang while trying to take down Batman and Robin.”
  • Villains will include: Killer Croc, Deadshot, Firefly, Black Mask, Deathstroke, “some kind of Electroman character,” and the return of the Penguin. These characters may be playable and customizable, according to Kotaku.
  • Origins will also contain side missions, such as “Crime in Progress”, where Batman assists the Gotham City Police Department in tasks such as rescuing police officers from a gang or preventing an informant from being thrown to his death; “Most Wanted” allows Batman to pursue villains outside of the main story.
  • A spin-off game, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, is scheduled for release alongside Arkham Origins for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita
  • Batman: Arkham Origins will be released on October 25, 2013 for PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.
