Electronics Arts and Maxis announced some bad news to Mac users last week, informing them that the SimCity for Mac’s release was moved to August 2013. Originally slated for a June 11 launch, the game devs posted on the official SimCity blog that the cause of delay is game quality.

[W]e are announcing that we are moving the release date of the Mac version of SimCity to August. We have made this tough decision because we do not believe it is ready from primetime yet. We want to ensure the Mac is a great experience for our players and that is why we are taking more time.

As it turns out, Maxis rewrote the whole software renderer of the SimCity for Mac using the OpenGL. That is in order to make sure that it would run smoothly on Apple’s operating system.

EA’s SimCity for Mac would enable users to experience gameplay that made EA draw around three million units sold when it first became available on PC. However, Mac users will need to wait a bit more to give this famous simulation game a spin of their own.

To make it up with the Mac users, EA and Maxis are extending the availability of SimCity Launch Park to all gamers who purchased its Mac version.
