It was announced last Wednesday that Hashtags on Facebook are now available to a small percentage of its users.

According to the social network, the new feature is meant to make it easier for users to find existing content. After all, many users are already posting hashtags on their status update.

Facebook hashtags will be both clickable and searchable, while the same features from other social networks such as Twitter and Instagram will be clickable as well. In addition, users can compose posts straight from a hashtag feed and search result.

The hashtag system was adopted by Twitter after user Chris Medina created it in 2007. It was meant to organize tweets around a particular subject into its API and huge ecosystem. Since then, this feature was used by other social media sites such as Instagram and Google+.

Facebook, on the other hand, is expected to roll out the hashtag support to all users in the coming weeks.
