Elon Musk, Tesla Motors CEO, has posted on Twitter last Tuesday that they would have a live demonstration of their battery-swap technology on Thursday. The said live event will take place at the car manufacturer’s design studio in Hawthorne, California at 8:00 OM (California Time).

The announcement took place just a week after Tesla Motors revealed that they would triple the number of their supercharging stations across US this year. In addition, the company will be posting a video of its battery-swap technology demo on their website at 9:30 PM.

Tesla Motors’ Battery-swap Technology

There were already hints of battery swaps for Tesla cars in the past, as their Model S was created with that technology in mind. In fact, Musk noted last May that there’s a way for the car to be “recharged throughout the country faster than you could fill a gas tank.”

A couple of months prior to that, a Tesla filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission was discovered. In the SEC filing, the company plans to create battery swapping stations that could increase the adoption of electronic cars. Although the automaker doesn’t have swapping stations as of the moment, they intend to introduce them in the near future.

Moreover, there were no words as to how Tesla Motors’ battery-swap technology would look like. But an Israeli-founded electric car start-up, Better Place, posted a video demo of a battery switch technology.

Other than the live demonstration of Tesla Motor’s battery-swap car technology, the company plans to make additional announcements on Thursday.
