You don’t have to be a racing fan to be familiar with the video game series Need for Speed. The Electronic Arts series has sold over 140 million copies since its debut in 1994. Despite a decline in recent years, that hasn’t stopped a film adaptation of the successful franchise from getting made.
As we speak, filming is underway in Georgia and Alabama. Need for Speed is slated for a March 14, 2014 release and will star Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Dominic Cooper (Captain America), Imogen Poots (Fright Night), Kid Cudi, Michael Keaton and an exclusive Ford Mustang.
Ford recently announced the collaboration at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, which could be a big boost for the iconic muscle car.
It’s rumored that this specially-built Mustang will be one powerful beast with an all-aluminum 5.8-litre supercharged V8 that produces about 900bhp. The interior will feature custom bodywork, such as wider arches, as well as lowered suspension and custom 22-inch alloy wheels.
As for the paint job, it looks like a retro ’90s deal. Silver body with glow in the dark blue stripes.
Ford has noted that the Mustang has been featured in some 3,000 movies, like Goldfinger and Bullitt, but unfortunately with the success Chevy has had with Transformers and Dodge with Fast and Furious 6, it’s easy to forget Mustang’s domination in the past.
With the Mustang’s 50th Anniversary conveniently occurring in 2014 as well, we think Ford is going to push Need for Speed and its leading star very heavily. And, it looks like this souped-up Mustang will once again become a favorite amongst car enthusiasts.
Besides the Ford Mustang, Need for Speed will also feature replicas of the hottest, and fastest, cars ever manufactured, such as, the Koenigsegg Ager, Koenigsegg Agera R, Saleen S7, McLaren P1, Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento, Porsche 911 GT3, Lamborghini Gallardo, Audi R8, and Hennessey Venom GT.
Here’s a little sneak peek of Need for Speed with this little on the set clip, where you can see some of the cars that will be featured in the movie.
In related news, a video just surfaced of a prototype for the 2015 Ford Mustang, codenamed S550, courtesy of Mustang 6G. As of now, everything regarding the sixth generation of the iconic muscle car is literally under wraps. But, expect to find out all the details when it is unveiled at the New York Auto Show next April 17th.
