It appears that people who pre-ordered PlayStation 4 are in for some good news, as it was recently reported that all PS4 systems will get the Playroom.

This new feature, which was previously revealed during E3 2013, is an augmented reality component that will come pre-loaded on all PS4 consoles. However, the Playroom requires the DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation Eye to work. The PS camera is also essential so that users can enjoy the service.

On the other hand, SCE President and CEO Andrew House pointed out that they’re not obliging users to buy PS4 peripherals. In an interview with The Guardian, he said:

There’s consumer flexibility. We have a camera which will build some great consumer experiences, especially when it’s used in conjunction with the DualShock 4, but we’re not mandating that, or forcing that purchase on the consumer.

Although the addition of Playroom on PS4 implies that developers are working on features and applications that will take advantage of the PS Eye, it remains to be seen whether users will be propelled to buy the additional components.
