In an effort to explain the unique new controls of PlayStation 4, Sony’s hardware and software developers collaborated to create a collection of tech demos for its Playroom feature. Moreover, the game bundles showcase the PS4 camera’s interaction with the controller, touch pad interface, and speaker.

The demos even include Pong’s touch-controlled, motion-sensitive version, as well as interactive augmented reality robots. According to SCEA Senior Producer Tsubasa Inaba:

Conceptually, it follows the DNA of (the PS Vita’s) ‘Welcome Park’. That’s actually the perfect example. Our R&D teams for hardware and our software teams worked to put that application together. It was a very similar situation for this one.

Doing Something for the Playroom Collection

Releasing The Playroom to gamers was not part of its initial plan. But the overwhelmingly positive reaction from the fans during the E3 event prompted Sony to re-examine what they could do with their collection of demos.

However, there’s no promise that this new developer interest will result to a new in-game experience. Although PS4’s The Playroom and its HD camera continue to evolve, the tech demo’s fate is still undetermined.

Here’s to hoping that it will be installed on Sony’s next-generation console.
