Snake Bites Man While on Toilet

For some reason as kid, I came across this incredibly campy horror movie entitled Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge. This 1989 film is so terrible that I’ve never come across it again. But, it did leave a long-lasting affect on my psyche.

There’s one scene where The Phantom character gets revenge on one of the bad guys by placing a venomous snake into the sewer pipes. The snake goes up the pipes, into the toilet that the bad guy is sitting, bites the guy and that’s all she wrote. Since snakes give me a serious case of the hebbe gebbes, that scene never left my memory.

Of course, as a relatively sane person, there’s no way a snake, or any other animal, could attack you while you’re doing your business, right?

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Some poor man in Israel was bitten on his penis by a snake that was hiding in the toilet bowl. My greatest fear just got real.

After the bite, the man ran from the bathroom and called paramedics. Thankfully, the snake wasn’t venomous and the man is under observation, but should be alright. One of the paramedics said “This is the first time I’ve seen a snake bite like this,” but apparently it’s more common than we’re aware of.

After hearing this story, Slate wrote up “A Brief History of Toilet-Based Animal Attacks,” which has some other examples of snakes, rats and even squirrels coming up into the toilet.

The next time you have to head to the bathroom, maybe you should peek inside the bowl and make sure nothing else is lurking inside.
