Mobile marketing company Velti conducted a research last September 2012 to find out how much an iPhone 5 upgrade really costs for both developers and consumers. According to their analysis, accessory replacement can cost an additional $400 for consumers; building a different screen size consumes an additional 15% of a developer’s time; and developing apps for higher resolution display adds 12% to the developer’s time.
