Just-Add Water Beer Could Be The Greatest Invention Ever


Have you ever been camping, hiking or just any place that has taken you away from the comforts of home for an extended amount of time? Probably. But, wouldn’t this little getaway be much more enjoyable if you could bring along some beer? Yes. Obviously.

While beer is easily attainable, it’s a bit hectic to lug through the woods or hills or an outdoor excursion. If only someone could resolve this quandary.

Thanks to Pat’s Backcountry Beverages, conveniently transporting brew is no longer a problem. How can this be, you may be asking yourself? Well, it’s kinda simple.

The reason why beer is so heavy and cumbersome to move around is because usually it’s around 95% water. But, if you removed the water, beer wouldn’t be such a hassle to transport. And, that’s exactly the product that has been created. Via a concentrate.

It all begins by using a brewing process that actually starts with almost no water, as opposed to brewing a beer and then removing the water. From there, the concentrate is fermented in a controlled environment and sealed up in a kit. When you’re ready to consume, just add water, let it carbonate in a bottle-shaped carbonation system and enjoy something that resembles a premium quality micro brew.

If you’re concerned about the end result, here’s what Pat Tatera, as in the Pat in the company name, told Gizmag:



We uphold the German purity laws – it’s barley, water, hops and yeast,” he says. “But from that point forward what we do with those ingredients is a radical departure from how the traditional brewing process takes place. If you come into our facility, you’ll see fermentors, you’ll see a mash tun, you’ll see a brew kettle, but you’ll also see some equipment that looks like some sci-fi movie, and that’s where our very specialized technology allows us to do what we do.”


Each kit makes a single 16oz pint and will set you back $9.95 for a four-pack. The beer concentrate will launch in September with two flavors: Pail Rail and Black IPA. Expect new flavors, like nut brown, American lager or pilsner, to roll out about every month after the debut.
