Chinese website, Sina Weibo, posted an image of a handful of iPhone 5C models being tested in a Pegatron facility. The image was reposted by French website Nowhere Else last Saturday.

It shows that the device is being tested ahead of final production. The handsets in question, which feature black glass façade surrounding the display, match the previous descriptions of the low-cost iPhone unit.

In relation to this, observers suggest that the mobile device’s design is meant to differentiate it from the iPod Touch, which has similar aesthetics. But it is also likely that the iPhone 5Cs on the image are fake, saying that it would actually feature a white front glass to match the unit’s white plastic back.

It was previously reported that iPhone 5C will boast a polycarbonate chassis, which would lessen the construction costs. This would also enable Apple to sell the device in a wider market without sacrificing profit margins. The low-cost iPhone is also expected to come in other colors such as blue, red, green, and yellow.

Together with the next-generation iPhone 5S, it is expected that the iPhone 5C will make its appearance on Apple’s media event on September 10.
