It seems that Chinese subscribers will be out of luck soon, as it was reported that inventory for the unlocked version of iPhone 5S in all three Beijing Apple stores has already run out.

As posted by Chinese website Sina Tech, the gold iPhone 5S appears to be the most popular model in the country. In fact, first day stock of the said device at the Sanlitum, Xidan Joy City, and Wangfujing Apple stores ran out just two hours after reservations went live last Tuesday. Both iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C went up for reservations last Tuesday, with in-store pick up set to begin on September 20.

Although the report only mentioned retail stores in Beijing, it somehow sheds some light on how in demand the handset is. Meanwhile, there were reports that the 16 GB Space Gray iPhone 5S remains up for reservation in Beijing and Hong Kong.

This year, Apple conducts its iPhone sales in China a bit differently. They require customers to text a special phone number to receive a booking code that they will enter into an online registration system. After that, buyers will choose a specific device configuration, provide a form of accepted government issued ID, and then complete the purchase in-store at a designated time.

China Mobile, on the other hand, is yet to announce it partnership with Apple. However, the Chinese government granted the new iPhone a license to operate on the carrier’s TD-LTE network last week, which suggests that both companies were able to strike an agreement.
