Game publisher and distributor Take-Two Interactive reported that Grand Theft Auto V bagged $800 million for its first-day sales. According to the company, over 8,300 stores all over United States opened their doors at midnight for the launch.

This sets a new record for both the franchise and developer Rockstar Games, but it’s not yet over as it is yet to take into account sales in Japan and Brazil. As stated by Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s chief executive:

All of us at Take-Two are thrilled with the initial response to Grand Theft Auto V. Once again, the team at Rockstar Games have outdone themselves, setting the entertainment industry’s new standard for creativity, innovation and excellence.

GTA V is now available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, while a PS4 and Xbox One version is expected although no official announcement has been made. There is also a petition for the game to be launched for PC.
