At the hype of Apple’s iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, NTT DoCoMo suffered its biggest subscriber loss last month. The largest Japanese carrier blames such mishap to the supply constraints of the latest flagship phone.

Bloomberg reported that the telecom lost 66,000 customers in September despite becoming Apple’s carrier partner. Based on internal data, customers left NTT DoCoMo after the carrier exhaust their launch supply of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.

Meanwhile Eiji Mori of BCN said that in order for the telecom to survive, they “must offer more incentives for existing users to remain with the carrier.” So far, 31.9 percent of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C units sold in Japan were from NTT DoCoMo, while SoftBank and KDDI garnered 39.5 percent and 28.6 percent respectively.
