Remembering Steve Jobs (1955 – 2011)

The passing of Steve Jobs on October 5, 2011 is an event that most likely affects each and every one of us. It was Jobs who helped usher in technology to our homes, fingertips, or anywhere we go. He also changed the entertainment industry as well. Regardless if you’re an Apple user or not, I can guarantee that the company has changed your life in some degree.

Steve Jobs first found success in the 1976 when he and Steve Wozniak released the Apple I, which was followed by the Apple II in 1977. The company that the two friends started was instrumental in the personal computing industry.

Then came the Macintosh computer. This pioneered the concept of mouse-controlled computing via a graphic user interface, and needless to say, was a financial success as well. However, it wasn’t enough to keep his job during an executive power struggle within the company.

Following his exit from Apple, Jobs went on to start another computer company, NeXT. He also purchased the nascent computer film division of Lucasfilm, Ltd. in 1986. This division would eventually become a little computer animation film studio called Pixar.

In 1996, Apple acquired NeXT, after declining business. This acquisition brought Jobs back into the company that he founded. From that point on, it was Jobs that made Apple the company that we know of today.

Steve Jobs lead the company into the development and creation of the iMac desktop computer, iTunes and the iPod in 2001, and most recently, the iPhone in 2007 and 2010’s iPad.

Today, Apple has more than 300 retail stores in 11 countries. It has sold more than 275 million iPods, 100 million iPhones and 25 million iPads worldwide.

After losing a long battle with pancreatic cancer, the company that he built, Apple, said it best.

“Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.”

Everyone here at AMOG would like to send our deepest condolences to Steve Jobs’ friends, family and fans in this difficult time.

In 1986 the first two persons at the island of Curacao(dutch caribbean)
who bought the first Macintosh with one diskdrive of 400K and an
imagewriter were henry beeker and me.
We paid both a half year in advance and really lived up to the arrival of the first macs.
