Pegatron reportedly bagged orders for Apple’s next-generation iPhone, which is said to hit the market on September. The factory will also be responsible for Apple’s 10-inch tablet that will be released by the fourth quarter of this year. Meanwhile, Foxconn will allegedly manufacture a 7-inch iPad that will be available this August.

Apple: Unlikely to Release a 7-inch iPad

Last March, Apple released its new iPad, which features Retina Display and 4G LTE connectivity. This means that introducing a new tablet in the market is unlikely. However, reports of a 7-inch iPad are nothing new.

Just last month, it was reported that the Cupertino-based company gave a go signal for a 7.85-inch iPad prototype. It will feature the same iPad 2 screen with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. This means that current iPad applications can still run on the smaller device without any modifications. However, it is still unclear whether the rumored device will ever see the light of day.

Next-generation iPhone’s Rumored September Release

On a related report, it is said that Pegatron will manufacture Apple’s next-generation iPhone. The factory is the current equipment manufacturer for iPhone 4S and the new iPad. There were claims that they are currently increasing their capacity and expanding their number of staff to handle more orders from Apple.

There were reports that the manufacturer has internally decided to downsize its SI motherboard department to shift their resources to Apple’s orders. Apparently, they are placing a priority with the iPhone maker, as other companies are reducing orders and its gross margins have been low.

As reported by Monica Chen of the industry website DigiTimes last Wednesday:

“To mainly focus on Apple’s orders, Pegatron has also internally decided to downsize its SI motherboard department and shift resources to Apple’s orders. Since Asustek has been reducing its motherboard orders to Pegatron, while gross margins are also rather low, the shifting in resources is expected to benefit Pegatron in its operations.”

In relation to this, the manufacturer is said to land an order from Apple to build its next-generation iPhone. However, the rumor about the iPhone’s September release has a slight discrepancy with previous claims that the iPhone maker will introduce its new mobile phone sometime in October, together with the launching of OS X Lion.

Meanwhile, Foxconn is holding a groundbreaking event today to start the construction of its new 10,000-square-meter operational headquarters in Shanghai, China. The new factory is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
