Anne Hathaway should have been enjoying her Screen Actors Guild nomination for Best Supporting Actress in Les Miserables, instead she’s had to defend her recent wardrobe malfunction.
While exiting her vehicle on Monday night’s New York premiere of Les Miserables the actress gave photographers more than they had ever hoped, since she wasn’t wearing any underwear. Of course, we’ve all been captivated by the Britney-like move. Hathaway, who’s had already had a successful year with films like The Dark Knight Rises, explained to Vanity Fair’s Ingrid Sischy what went wrong.
I was getting out of the car and my dress was so tight that I didn’t realize it until I saw all the photographers’ flashes”
She also added that “It was devastating. They saw everything. I might as well have lifted up my skirt for them.”
But, the attention didn’t stop there. While stopping by “The Today Show,” Hathaway responded to Matt Lauer about the incident as well.
It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which takes us back to Les Mis, because that’s what my character is.”
Nice save. And, she actually makes a very valid point. It’s unfair to subject another person like this, but, that’s also the times we live in. And, maybe she should have followed the advice of Patricia Fitzpatrick, founder and director of the Etiquette School of New York. “Wear underwear.”
Maybe in time Hathaway will laugh at the unfortunate event. Especially when there’s people covering up her naughty bits with the words Uh-Oh, a heart, and most relevant to Hathaway right now, a Les Miz poster head.
