With just around six weeks until its release, Marvel has been stepping up promotion for Iron Man 3.
The New IMAX Poster
While it isn’t exactly original, it’s even a composite of previously released posters ofRDJ/Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce, the new IMAX poster it gets the job. It reminds us that there’s a lot at stake for Tony Stark and Company as they stare somberly into the distance.
New Trailer and TV Spot
The trailer is from Chinese television maker TCL Corp., who has partnered with Marvel to promote the movie. The new mini-trailer offers up some new footage, but it mostly contains clips that we’ve previously seen. One of the more intriguing elements that comes out from the trailer is what’s going with Guy Pearce’s character, Dr. Aldrich Killian. In the comics, he’s a scientist who develops the “Extremis” virus and later sells it to domestic terrorists. In the trailer, however, some could view him as an ally to Tony Stark.
There’s also a new TV spot making its way around the web. The brief clip is geared more towards kids, since it’s being used to lure us into checking out Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday, March 23 at 8/7c. The “awards” show is promising that they will be unveiling new footage.
Will Another Marvel Character Have a Cameo?
When Stephanie Szostak was listed to play Ellen Brandt on IMDb, a character from the Doctor Strange comic books, fans began speculating that there could be a cameo from Dr. Strange. To add fuel to the fire, Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige, recently said that magic would be a big part of Marvel’s next phase of movies. It would make sense to introduce Dr. Strange in Marvel’s flagship movie franchise, but I don’t expect it to happen. It sounds like there’s enough already going on in Iron Man 3.
Joss Whedon’s Response
The writer and director of The Avengers recently got a sneak peak of Iron Man 3, and he gave the film a huge compliment. “We have what I think is the biggest, you know, most action-packed finale we’ve had,” Feige disclosed during an interview earlier in March. “I showed the film to Joss Whedon, who is our writer-director of Avengers, is currently working on Avengers 2, and he saw the finale of this and he goes, now what am I supposed to do now? What am I going to do in Avengers 2?”
We don’t know about you, but we’re excited for the third solo outing for Iron Man. The film opens on May 3 and was directed by new helmer Shane Black. It stars returning cast members Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, as well as, new members Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, and Stephanie Szostak.
