Since we live in a culture that idolizes celebrities, it’s no surprise that celebrity-owned items are big business. Since the launch of eBay in 1995, those items can easily and conveniently be auctioned off for thousands of dollars to anyone with the cash in their PayPal account.
Search through the celebrity-owned section of the world’s largest online auction and you’ll find plenty of goodies ranging from cars to sneakers. But, there’s also a lot of strange celebrity-owned items listed as well.
Over the years, people have put up some really odd items that had something to do with a celeb. We understand that everyone wants to get a little closer to their favorite star, but some of the stuff that has been auctioned off on eBay is just ridic. For example, here’s the following ten items that have to be considered the strangest celebrity-owned items ever sold on eBay.
10. Justin Bieber’s Hair
Like it or not, Justin Bieber is one of the biggest stars roaming the planet right now, so it wasn’t a surprise that locks of his hair would sell big. In 2011, the Biebs’ gave Ellen DeGeneres a box full of his recently cut hair. The hostess quickly put the hair up on eBay, which sold for $40,668. The cash, however, went to the animal rescue organization The Gentle Barn Foundation.
9. JD Salinger’s Toilet
At some point in high school, maybe even college, you’re going to have to read a little book called “The Catcher in the Rye,” written by reclusive author JD Salinger. In 2010, the original toilet from his home was listed at an outrageous $1 million. To make things weirder, the toilet was described as “un-cleaned and in its original condition”. Yuck.
8. Niall Horan’s Half-Eaten Vegemite Toast
One of the kids from One Direction didn’t finish his vegemite laden toast while on an Australian talk show, so someone decided to make a couple of bucks off of it. Shockingly, the bids hit $100,000 before the half eaten toast was taken down.
7. Britney Spear’s Chewed Gum
In 2004, when Britney was still a really big deal, a piece of gum that she actually chewed was listed on eBay at an incredible $14,000. That same year, there were also several other auctions of her chewed wads of gum that usually went between $5 to $10.
6. John Lennon’s Tooth
Word is that the former Beatle gave his pulled tooth to a housekeeper following a trip to the dentist. In 2011, the tooth found its way to eBay and was bought by Canadian dentist Michael Zuk who dished out $31,200 for Lennon’s tooth.
5. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Breath
Brangelina is one of Hollywood’s most famous and popular couples, so it’s not a shocker to find something that the couple owned on eBay. But, their breath? The seller claimed that as the couple walked down a red carpet event in 2010, he “captured” their breath in a jar. The craziest part about this item is that it still managed to sell for $530.
4. Justin Timberlake’s Half-Eaten French Toast
While JT was still a part of N-Sync, he didn’t finish his breakfast while doing an interview with New York radio station Z-100 in 2006. Someone took the leftover French toast that Justin didn’t eat and immediately it put up on eBay. Timberlake’s French toast reportedly sold for $3,154.
3. Scarlett Johansson’s Used Tissue
Every guy on the planet loves Scarjo, but someone took that fascination towards Creepyville when they bought a used tissue by the actress in 2008 for $5,300. At least we know the tissue, and its contents, were actually belonged to Johansson, since said tissue was used during an appearance on The Tonight Show.
2. Michael Jackson’s Underwear
Where to begin on this item. First off, who would seriously pay $1 million for underwear that belonged to the King of Pop? Secondly, these drawers were soiled. And, finally, they were evidence during MJ’s 2003 child molestation hearing. There’s some really disturbed people out there. Disturbed people with cash, at that.
1. William Shatner’s Kidney Stone
William Shatner will always be remembered as Captain Kirk from Star Trek. The thing is, Trekkies are serious collectors who have an expendable income since they still live with their parents. So, why wouldn’t Shatner put up a kidney stone that he passed in 2006? The winning bid went to the Golden Palace Casino for $75,000, which went to charity.
