Star in Focus: Kristen Stewart

In the limelight for playing Bella Swan in hit film The Twilight Saga, Kristen Jaymes Stewart is an American actress who also threaded the boards in films such as Panic Room, Cold Creek Manor, Into the Wild, Jumper and The Runaways. Yes, she is AMOG’s Star of the Week.

Kristen was born and raised in Los Angeles with a stage manager and television producer father who has worked for Fox and a script supervisor Aussie mother. The entire family worked behind the camera and Kristen never thought of being an actor. In fact, she thought she would become a writer/director.

As for Kristen’s acting career, it began at the age of eight when an agent saw her perform on a Christmas play in her elementary school. She had to endure a year of auditions in the movie industry before catching her first role: a nonspeaking part in the film The Thirteenth Year. Subsequently after struggling through, Kirsten got a major role in the Hollywood film Panic Room as the diabetic daughter of a divorced mother (Jodie Foster). The film got positive reviews en masse and Kristen received recognition and was nominated for a Young Artist Award for her performance.

November 16, 2007 must be the best day for Kristen when Summit Entertainment announced that she would play Isabella “Bella” Swan in the film based on Stephenie Meyer’s vampire romance novel of the same name, Twilight. She was on the set of Adventureland when the twilight director came to her for an informal screen test which attracted the director. She stars with Robert Pattinson who plays Edward Cullen, Bella’s vampire boyfriend. Kristen received the MTV Movie Award for Best Female Performance for her portrayal as Bella Swan. She reappeared as Bella in the sequel, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Eclipse.
