You’ve probably heard of the Kama Sutra—what man hasn’t? But have you really taken the time to look into it and how it can be beneficial to both you and the woman in your life?
The tips and positions of the ancient Hindu text have been practiced for centuries. Even though many things regarding sex have changed, the basic equipment is still there, which is why people still use the Kama Sutra. The book describes 64 sexual acts (if you want to check them out go here) so there should always be some new and exciting moves for you to experiment with. However, for the sake of time, here are some of the best tips and ideas from the Kama Sutra to at least get you started.
Preparing for Sex

The Kama Sutra isn’t just about having sex, rolling over and passing out. There are actually some preparations to do before things get really heated up.
Start off with making sure that you have a clean mouth (brushing your teeth, flossing, mouthwash, etc.). This will ensure that your lovemaking will be more positive. Follow that up with taking a bath or shower together. Besides getting clean, which is important to Hindu tradition, it’s also a great sensual and relaxing experience.
You’ll also want to set the mood with anything from incense, perfuming your skin, flowers, wine or champagne, silk or satin, soft light, and oils and lotions.
Caresses and Foreplay

Once you are clean and have set the mood, begin to caress each other. Make sure that you touch the erogenous zones of the body, which are the lips, neck, throat, breast, nipples, ankles, calves, thighs, feet and toes, buttocks and of course the vagina or penis.
You should also try some of the Kama Sutra embraces, as well as biting, scratching, and some hair play.
Of course, kissing and mouth play are also important. There are more ways to kiss then you’re probably aware, so do some research and practice. Just remember to kiss the body, relax, and have fun.
Finally, there are some oral-sex techniques that you can do. They are as follows:
The clitoris is the most sensitive part of a woman’s body. Stimulation should start out somewhat gentle. You might want to begin with your tongue and lips. Stimulate both sides of the shaft of clitoris with your tongue. You can also gently stimulate the head of the clitoris. You might want to try flicking the underside of the shaft with your tongue.
Stimulating the Perineum
The perineum is the skin between the vagina and the anus. It is especially sensitive. Stimulation of the perineum can be highly arousing. Make sure that you approach the area gently, and that your lover is comfortable.
Kissing the Labia and Vagina
The labia are often called the lips of the vagina. Just like the other lips, the labia respond to similar forms of contact. You might try licking the labia and vagina up and down. Giving the labia a gentle “lip-lock” can be very stimulating as well.
Inserting Your Tongue
After stimulating the clitoris and labia, your lover may respond well to the insertion of your tongue. You may start with just the tip and later, for variety, insert more of your tongue.
One secret is that women enjoy a variety of sensations. Don’t continue for too long with the same stroke unless she asks you to.

Now, it’s time for intercourse. As mentioned earlier, there are 64 sex acts in the Karma Sutra, so we’re going to list Cosmos‘ great sex positions for the 21st century (Cosmo also has numerous other potions listed on their site), with the wording changed slightly for a man’s point of view.
Pleasure Pick-Me Up
Standing with your back against the edge of the bed (or even the washer or dryer), pick up your lady with your hands cradling her bottom and the backs of her thighs. She should wrap her legs around your waist (her feet should be placed on the on the bed for support) and her arms around your neck and shoulders. As your penis enters her, she should hang suspended from your, bouncing up and down with the help of your arms.
Mover and Shaker
With your lady lying facedown on top of a washing machine, her feet flat on the floor (if she’s short, try having her stand on a phone book). Stand facing her behind. Once you’re going at it, turn on the machine. Lean forward so that your thighs are pressed against her. The vibrations will rock through your entire body.
The Couch Canoodle
Sit back on a couch (or a comfy chair) while your partner straddles your lap with her legs splayed apart and her knees bent up against your chest. Then, your partner slowly leans back so she’s almost upside down with her arms stretched behind her (all the way to the floor) to support her weight and maintain her balance. Then, she thrusts back and forth against your, opening and closing her legs.
The Hang Ten
While your partner stands, she should bend forward with her legs spread slightly, her back straight, and her hands resting on her knees. You enter her from behind, pulling yourself as close to her as possible while holding her torso for support. Bring your partner even closer until your bodies come into full contact. Lean slightly over her to gain pumping power.
The Tight Squeeze
Your partner lies down on her stomach with her your legs straight but spread slightly. Her arms should be resting at her sides or stretched out in front of her. Stretch your body over hers, resting on your elbows so you don’t place all your weight on her. Then positions your legs outside her legs. As you enter her, your partner closes her legs and crosses them at the ankles.
The Lusty Leg Lift
Face your partner, standing with your legs shoulder width apart. Have her take her left foot and turn it out to the side while keeping her right one facing forward. Widen your stance, with your legs about three feet apart, and then bend your knees ever-so-slightly. While she wraps her arms around your neck, put your arms snugly around her lower back. Here’s where it gets a little tricky: Pull her right leg up and place her right foot on your left shoulder, while she keeps her right knee bent. As you slowly enter her, she eases gently into a vertical split by sliding her calf as far up your left shoulder as she comfortably can.
Standing Tiger/Crouching Dragon
With your partner on all fours and your knees at the edge of the bed, you, the tiger, stand behind her, your feet hip-width apart. While you spreads your legs on either side of hers, she keeps her knees together to narrow her vaginal canal, causing it to feel much snugger around your penis as you thrust. Be sure to let out a fiery tiger’s roar to let her know how you feel!
The Dirty Dangle
Begin with your partner on her back at the foot end of the bed. Mount her missionary-style, and when you’re both close to climax, have her inch toward the edge of the bed until her head, shoulders, and arms hang backward over the side. Then keep on thrusting.

For many of us, the moments after sex are the best—unless it’s some awful one-night-stand scenario—which is why you should spend time and continue the fun with your partner. Perhaps tickle each other or just find something funny to laugh at.
After all, the Kama Sutra states that it is impolite to fall asleep too quickly after sex, and “those things that increase passion should be done first, and those for amusement should be done afterward.”
